Witness the extraordinary phenomena of the ‘Northern Lights’ from Tromsø – the self-styled ‘capital of the Arctic’. Situated in the heart of the Aurora Zone this destination offers city comforts and plenty of wilderness excursions. Join the search for the Northern Lights, steer your own husky sled, go reindeer spotting or cross mountain landscapes on a snowmobile safari.The city’s attraction’s also includes museums, award winning restaurants, the Arctic Cathedral and Fjellheisen – a cable car journey offering panoramic views of the surrounding area.
Day 1 UK – Tromsø
Fly direct from London Gatwick or via Oslo. Upon arrival transfer with ‘Flybussen’ from the airport to your chosen hotel.
Day 2 & 3 - At Leisure
These days are free for your chosen excursions (please see the excursion tab). Top of the agenda has to be a Northern Lights search but there are plenty of other attractions and activities in this vibrant University City. Try a thrilling snowmobile or husky safari; there is whale watching and reindeer spotting or a gentle harbour cruise. A stroll through the reveals museums, café’s and a cable car that takes you to the top of Storsteinen for panoramic views.
Day 4 Tromsø - UK
Enjoy a leisurely morning. Why not grab a lunch in one of the many fish restaurants (we recommend Emma’s Kitchen or Fiskekompaniet for a treat). Transfer back to the airport with Flybussen in time for your return flight.

Tromsø Northern Lights Chase & Aurora Camps
Maximise your chances of seeing the northern lights with this combined northern lights hunt and aurora camp experience. Your experienced guides will have checked the latest aurora forecast and head (by coach) to the area where the prediction is strongest. Stops are made along the way and the guides (who are also professional photographers), will help you to capture the magical landscape. Hot drinks are then served at an exclusive Aurora Camp, along with the opportunity to grill sausages over an open fire, before heading back to Tromso.

Tromsø Northern Lights Chase By Mini-Bus
Join this small group chase (max 13 per mini-bus) heading out from Tromso to wherever the latest aurora forecast is strongest. This could take you along the coastline or inland, sometimes as far as the Finnish border. During the evening your driver/guide will inform you of the scientific and mythical explanations of the northern lights. Professional help is also on hand to enable you to capture the incredible light, scenic backdrops and hopefully the northern lights in this incredible landscape. A further refreshment stop is made as you enjoy hot drinks and grill sausages over an open fire, before returning to Tromso, hopefully having ticked the northern lights off your bucket list.

Tromsø Silent Whale Watching
Experience the giants of the seas with one of the world’s most environmentally friendly whale watching vessels, the two-mast schooner ‘Opal’. Spacious inside and out, the skilled crew take this adapted hybrid electric traditional boat and sail into Kaldfjorden, through the feeding grounds of humpbacks, orca’s and sea eagles. The silent propulsion also enables the captain to capture the surrounding whale songs on the hydrophone. Hot soup and drinks are included on this adventure as are professional guides with an extensive knowledge of the whales and Arctic sea-life.

Tromsø Visit The Ice Domes
Located a scenic 75-minute drive from the city and in the heart of the Tamok Valley lies Tromso’s latest attraction – the Ice Domes. Rising out of the Arctic wilderness are two exquisite ice bars and a restaurant, featuring intricately carved ice sculptures that pay homage to the local Sami culture and the mystery of the northern lights. A welcome (non-alcoholic) drink will be waiting for you as you hear how the domes were constructed, before enjoying a delicious meal of bacalaos served in the ice restaurant.
