Drive and discover Sweden from stylish Stockholm in the east to the gastronomic delights of Gothenburg in the west. Along the way take in Darlana, a region with a rich artisan heritage and considered more Swedish than ABBA and IKEA. Continue onwards to the landscapes lying between Lake Vattern and Bohuslan’s skerry (small uninhabited rocky islands) littered coast. The route is carefully designed to enable you to see as much as possible along the way together with hotel stops at a mix of country hotels famed for their culinary prowess and oustanding locations.

Day 1 UK-Stockholm
Fly from London Gatwick to Stockholm, self-transfer to city centre and overnight at Hotel Reisen for 2 nights.
Day 2 Stockholm
Must see and do’s are Gamla Stan with its cobbled alleyways and eclectic mix of medieval and Hanseatic buildings, Östermalm for retail therapy, the Vasa warship museum for a dose of maritime culture and Konditori Vete-Katten for the cinnamon bun to end all cinnamon buns! On your doorstep is also the 24,000 island archipelago and an armada of boats ready to take you out for an hour, a day and anything in between; and Uppsala with its exquisite Cathedral and botanical gardens laid out by Linnaeus.
Day 3 Filipstad
Collect hire car and drive west via Eskilstuna and Örebro to the village of Filipstad just north of Lake Vanern and in the heart of Darlana. 2 nights at Hennickehammars Manor. Dating back to 1700 the house stands in its own grounds by the edge of a small lake.
Day 4 Filipstad Depending on how much driving you fancy visit to Borlangae or Falun on Lake Silja, home to the eponymous wooden horse; walk and/or fish in the nearby Malingsbo Nature Reserve with its hundred lakes or visit Motola on Lake Vattern.
Day 5 Trollhattan
Drive south via Karlstad and alongside the western side of Lake Vanern to Trollhattan for a night at the Albert Kitchen & Hotel. Dine whilst overlooking the falls and ladder of water locks lifting the steamers from the Gota Canal up to the lake.
Day 6 Gothenburg
Drive direct to Gothenburg or detour out to the Bohuslan coast with its numerous offshore islands for a final night at the Clarion Hotel Post. Between arriving and leaving foodies should take in the food markets of Saluhallen and Feskekörka. Wherever you choose to eat (try the seafood platter at Fiskegrogen) the fish is to die for. If time permits the Old Dutch area around the centre is best seen from the sea in a Paddan canal steamer.
Day 7 Goteborg
Morning free before self transfer to Landvetter airport, drop off hire car and return flight to UK.
