A Brief Encounter with Reykjavik

It may be one of Europe’s smallest capitals, but it certainly puts many others to shame with its diversity of attractions. In close proximity are geysers, caves, hot springs and glaciers. The city centre proffers galleries, museums and sculptures which reflect the huge variety and creative and cultural background of Iceland’s population of just 321,000. Buildings owe more to nature than to architects. The plethora of restaurants on offer pride themselves on crafting culinary delights from an abundance of locally sourced products.

Our brief encounter to Reykjavik is designed to be flexible. Choose your hotel and combine with any one of our excursions and adventures detailed in the excursion tab.

DAY 1 - Reykjavik

Fly from a wide choice of regional airports direct to Keflavik Airport. Transfer with airport shuttle bus (or upgrade to a private transfer) and check-in at your chosen hotel.

DAY 2 & 3 - Optional Excursions

DAY 4 - UK

Enjoy last minute shopping or stop off at the Blue Lagoon on the way to the airport in time for your return flight home.

Centerhotel Plaza

This modern hotel is in a great location just minutes’ walk from all the major attractions and close to the National Gallery. Representing excellent value, the 180 rooms are furnished with simple contemporary oak furnishings and all have private WC/shower. Relax in the Plaza Bar with floor to ceiling windows. Buffet breakfast is served on site and there are a myriad of restaurants, bars & cafés within walking distance for dining later.

Centrum Hotel

A stylish modern hotel with an exterior sympathetically in keeping with the surrounding clapboard buildings. It is located in a quiet enclave in the heart of the old city close to restaurants and shops. During construction of the property the remains of a Viking longhouse from the Settlement period, along with Iceland’s oldest human remains, were found. Hotel Borg

Hotel Borg has quickly become one of Reykjavik’s landmark properties. Originally built in 1930, the hotel pays homage to its Art Deco past and oozes elegance and charm. Hotel Holt

The wood panelled walls, original Icelandic art, leather Chesterfields, wine cellar, library and bar give this family owned hotel something of a ‘Back to the Future’ feel. Just a few minutes from the city centre it has a deserved reputation for personal service guide by long standing Manager Snorri Valsson and has 39 twin & double rooms along with 12 suites. Apotek Hotel

The Apotek is a new addition to Reykjavik. This former pharmacy is housed in a in one of Iceland’s most historic buildings designed by Guðjón Samúelson, former State Architect of Iceland. Blue Lagoon & Keflavik Transfer

The perfect way to make the most of your last few hours in Reykjavik. The shuttle bus picks you up at your hotel and transfers you to the Blue Lagoon where you can spend a relaxing morning luxuriating its warm milky blue waters before heading by scheduled shuttle bus to Keflavik airport for your flight home. Golden Circle Classic

An all-day, scenic extravaganza. Admire the landscapes of Thingvellir National Park. Continue to Gullfoss, whose foaming, thundering waters are often overarched by a rainbow in summer, or stunningly frozen in mid-air, in winter. Continue to the Geysir area with its spouting water and bubbling mud pots. Lunch (payable locally).

Super Jeep Golden Circle and Langjokull Glacier

Northern Lights Hunt by Bus

Spend an evening in search of the Northern Lights. This tour takes you away from the city and explores some of the best places to see this wonderful natural display where, when the Aurora Borealis does appear, the colourful lights dance and swirl across the clear, winter sky.

Super Jeep Northern Lights Search

Your guide transports you away from the city lights into surrounding countryside where the modified Landrover Defenders takes you through spectacular landscapes; providing an ideal backdrop as and when the Northern Lights appear. Your guide is on hand to help you capture this spectacle on film and should the lights not appear, you are welcome to try another night free of charge.
