Hurtigruten has been an integral part of Norwegian life for over 140 years, connecting coastal communities between Bergen in the South to Kirkenes on the Russian border in the North with a total of 34 ports of call. Departures are daily and year round with each season presenting unrivalled views of the landscape, insights into rural life and boundless wildlife spotting opportunities. Day 1 UK – Bergen
Fly to Bergen and we will arrange a private transfer to your hotel, the Clarion Collection Havnekontoret, located by the UNESCOWorld Heritage site of Bryggen, for 1 night.
Day 2 Bergen and Hurtigruten
You have the day to enjoy Bergen, wherethere are so many sightseeing opportunities within easy walking distance ofthe city centre including the Fish Market, the Funicular railway to Mt. Fløyenand Bryggen. Self-transfer to the Hurtigruten quayside for the early evening sailing out through the skerry littered archipelago. Accommodation in chosen cabin, breakfast, lunch and dinner included throughout the sailing.
Day 3 Ålesund & Geiranger
A morning arrival in the beautiful town of Ålesund, famed for its Art Nouveau buildings. The ship continues to Geirangerfjord, where you will disembark for a guided excursion up Ørneveien (Eagle Road), travel on and on the picturesque Eidsdal to Linge ferry, pass through the Gulbrands Gorge and complete the trip with an exhilarating drive down the 11 hairpin bends of the Trollstigen Pass, eventually joining the ship again in Molde.
Day 4 Trondheim
This exciting university town is home to Nideros Cathedral, built over the burial site of Saint Olaf, the 11th century Norwegian king. Alternatively, you could choose to visit the ancient fortress island of Munkholmen.
Day 5 Arctic Circle and Lofoten Islands
Cross the Arctic Circle which, during this time marks the southern extremity of the Midnight Sun. Early evening arrival at Svolvaer, the capital of the Lofoten Islands. The landscape here is dominated by jagged peaks and, white sandy beaches and a coastline dotted with small red Rorbuer (Fisherman Cottages) and Stock- Fish racks. There is a choice of excursions including a worthy visit to the Viking Museum.
Day 6 Tromsø
The Capital of the North has a fantastic history and is surrounded by wilderness. Indulge in some local ‘wildlife’ by way of a whale watching excursion or a husky walk. Alternatively, wander at leisure and take the cable car into the surrounding mountains for some spectacular views.
Day 7 Honningsvåg – North Cape
Disembark in Honningsvåg for a journey to the North Cape where, between mid-May and end of August, the sun never sets. Along the way you may see grazing herds of reindeer and the small camps of the indigenous Sami. There is plenty of time to absorb the surrounding view of mainland Europe’s most northerly point.
Day 8 Kirkenes
Your arrival at Kirkenes signals the end of this memorable voyage. Before you leave take a trip to the Russian border, learn Arctic bushcraft or view the feathered friends that pass east to west through the migratory corridor. On arrival in Oslo transfer to the Hotel Thief for one night.
Day 9 Oslo
Enjoy a day sightseeing in the capital before transferring to the airport.
